Alger "Putt" Senn, together with Kurt Switzenburg, founded Senn Blacktop, Inc., in 1958. The company began operating in Osseo, Wisconsin, and relocated to its current location in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, when projects began to surface in the Eau Claire area.

Putt had followed in his father Dave's footsteps, who began road work and oiling in 1936. Keeping this tradition alive, Steve and Greg Senn, Putt's sons, began work in the early years of the company and took over as President and Vice President in the 1970s. With the growth of Senn Blacktop during this decade, a 200-ton silo was installed and a new Stansteel Drum Mix Asphalt Plant replaced the batch plant, enhancing productivity and efficiency. Due to an extremely tough economy from 1979-81, paving companies experienced tough financial years, but not a single employee at Senn Blacktop lost a job or saw a cut in wages.

The 1980s began a long era of growth in sales, efficiency, organization and motivated work force. Greg "Mitch" Mitchell's contributions greatly improved the efficiency and organization of the company. Darrin Senn, Greg's son, joined the team in 1988 and added a new dimension. With the purchase of a second 200-ton silo and an increase in working crews, Senn Blacktop began further expanding its facility and service in the 1990s. The installation of a "bag house" helped to enhance our environmental protection efforts.

Currently, Darrin has stepped up as President and the company has grown to over 50 employees. We employ experienced crew members who operate a fleet of trucks and heavy equipment, including graders, pavers and rollers. The company uses a fully computer-operated plant generating thousands of tons of asphalt a day during the peak spring-to-fall blacktopping season.

We receive hundreds of paving jobs for local roads, parking lots, and driveways each year. We also reach out to our community through participation in over 30 nonprofit organizations and many area schools in the Chippewa Valley.

Our future depends upon our ability to provide quality service and products. Our dedication ensures that we always will.
